TGIF! (Thank God It’s Friday) is celebrating the last day of the work/school week before the weekend according to Wikipedia, it is the day that you we’re done learning at school or done from work, the best place for Iliganons, Iligan Night Market.
Iligan Night Market event was spearheaded by the city councilors Frederick Siao and Ruderic Marzo together with concerned businesses discussed the substance of the ordinance in the planned night market in a public hearing in yesterday’s session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.[1] Iligan Night Market was launched on its opening salvo last February 4-5, on that day of the opening, they had also a inter-barangay dance competition, live band and raffle prizes. Since Iligan Night Market is getting more popular, many Iliganons visit to have a dinner on the plaza, chat with friends, or taking a snack. You may find various food stalls on the Iligan Night Market , predominantly, they were lechon baboy (or Roasted Pig), barbecue food stall which make your stomach growl because of the aroma that the barbecue is grilled. The night market itself includes ukay-ukay, footware sales or general merchandise. At the inside of plaza, occupying the left-to-middle portion, if facing the stage, contains the dining tables owned by the food stall occupants, also to not mess up your enjoyment while eating, they put up a large and big umbrella-like on the plaza, occupying ¾ of the plaza. Police officers were station at different portions of the plaza to protect the locals from danger and threats. Most of the visitors to the Iligan Night Market were students; most of them are in the tempura-buko juice stall which sells tempura (3 for 10 pesos), kwek-kwek (costs 10 pesos), a not-an-ordinary chicken egg that is coated by a thick orange batter that is best eaten with a lots of hot sauce, kwek-kwek is popular here in Iligan but in some places, kwek-kwek is made with quail eggs while ‘kwek-kwek’ in Iligan is a larger version and is called “tokneneng” in Tagalog. Food stalls are placed on the left side and the ukay-ukay in the right side.
On the Iligan Night Market , you will enjoy the background music to have an excitement on your visit; you can also see the local bands performing at the front of the people on the plaza stage. If you are quite tired from work or in school, you can enjoy the massage and reflexology area.
Iligan Night Market event operation hours are Friday and Saturday nights from 5PM onwards.
How to get there?
Ask the driver of the jeepney to make a stop on the plaza, most of the jeepney routes will pass on the plaza so no worries on getting there. To catch the Iligan Night Market event, be on Fridays and Saturdays.

I had a very enjoyable time at Night Market on my last visit to Iligan. A nice and easy way to try out a variety of local food and specialties, meet with friends and enjoy some popular beverages. I look forward to this on future visits.
